Through Art, Lives Change
Introduction
For over a decade, LACOE's Center for Distance and Online Learning has captured the power of instructional technology, transforming learning in classrooms and beyond. And we acknowledge that the Arts are a vital component in supporting our students and their education. And CDOL is a part of that change through a variety of projects, products, and services.
Technology Enhanced Arts Learning Project (TEAL)
The Technology Enhanced Arts Learning project, or TEAL, uses a hybrid Collective Impact implementation model to help educators build capacity in a Multi-Tiered System of Support-Integrated Arts infrastructure with equitable access to high quality no-cost professional development, online tools, and resources. Pre-service and in-service educators within LA County, and six County Offices of Education now engage in culturally inclusive Arts education activities that incorporate evidence-based strategies. TEAL's framework rates culturally relevant Arts integration aligned to Common Core State Standards, Social Emotional Learning competencies, and Anti-Racist pedagogy to nurture the holistic well-being of students, staff, and families.
Engage California English Learners through the Arts! Project (ECELA)
The Engage California English Learners through the Arts! project is a federally funded grant providing research and evidence-based professional learning and family literacy programs to integrate arts in core content areas with strategies that increase literacy for English Learners and support Social Emotional Learning. CDOL provides the support to improve classroom instruction in Rosemead SD, Inglewood USD, and Los Banos USD school districts.
Promising Learners Project (PLP)
Promising Learners project, or PLP, is a state-funded grant supporting teachers to create engaging learning experiences and environments for Foster and Homeless students with a focus on TK through 3rd grade, through Arts instruction, Youth engagement, and Social-Emotional Learning strategies. The project aims to decrease Chronic Absenteeism, increase Youth Engagement, and support students in achieving Academic and Social success.
